Makalu Region

Introduction

Makalu is the 5th highest mountains in the world with the altitude of 8,485 metres. In the eastern of Nepal, the Makalu area is protected by the Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Project which offers a combination of rich culture heritage, unsurpassed beauty and biological diversity.Makalu-Barun National Park and Buffer zone, with the total area of 2330 sq. km. is the only protected area with an elevation of 8,000m with a strict nature reserve,  promeninetly involved in protecting the forests and natural resources, and in conserving the rich cultural heritage of the ethnic inhabitants. Thus this area is blessed with diversity of natural vegetation, culture and life style of local people.
