We start a historical and heritage tour of Kathmandu, Nuwakot, and Gorkha from the city of Temples- Kathmandu. We begin our tour exploring the beautiful Newari architecture in the Durbar Squares of Kathmandu. Kathmandu Durbar Square is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The residence of the living goddess, Kumari, can be observed on the premises of Kumari temple. We can observe the courtyards in the Basantpur Durbar, having one of the finest wooden architecture, reflected in every window and balcony of the Palace. The furious statue of Kal Bhairav and other temples and structures attracts your attention. Throughout the year, several festivals are celebrated on the premises of Durbar Square. Indra Jatra, Gai Jatra, and Holi are some popular festivals celebrated in Durbar Square. After Kathmandu Durbar Square, we will go to Swoyambhunath Stupa, which represents the rich cultural heritage and centuries-old traditions. Likewise, Pashupatinath temple and its surroundings reflect the rich Nepali civilization that has been followed for several hundred years.
Nuwakot is another destination after Kathmandu city. We follow the Trishuli highway to reach Nuwakot Durbar. Nuwakot has a historical significance in Nepal’s unification campaign. The seven-story Nuwakot Durbar once served as the main durbar of King Prithvi Narayan Shah. Besides this, the eco-friendly and traditional hospitality in this hilly town is a major attraction.
