Exploring the Heart of Nepal: A Scenic Journey from Nuwakot to Gorkha

The unforgettable camping tour starts from Trisuli-Nuwakot and ends at Tanahu, Khaireni.  We started driving from the bustling city of Kathmandu to the serene and picturesque landscapes of Nuwakot, following Tokha, Shivapuri National Park, and Chhahare, and finally halted at Trisuli for lunch. This tour showcased us an authentic experience of rural Nepal, blending scenic drives through mountain roads and offering breathtaking views of lush forests and river valleys. The fresh mountain air and changing scenery make this a delightful start to the trip.  After lunch at Siddhartha Trisuli Tower, we continued to drive to reach Phedi (Samari Nuwakot), from where we started to hike towards Bharyang Bhurung. The camp was already set by the Sherpa team led by Norbu at Bharyang Bhurung, a quaint village nestled among terraced fields and traditional homes. As we hike, soak in the tranquility and marvel at the unspoiled beauty of rural Nepal. We concluded our first-day hiking experience around three kilometers (3km), entering the Camping area by immersing ourselves in the simple yet enriching life of the hills, where the stars seem closer and the night is filled with the sounds of nature. Enjoy dinner at a campsite.

We woke up early in the morning and walked for a few minutes around the camping area. We visited the suspension bridge and strolled through the terraced farms to learn about the agricultural lifestyle of the region. We enjoyed black coffee before a hearty breakfast at the campsite.  After breakfast, we hiked for two hours to reach Kutunje, where we had lunch. Regularly, kitchen staff and Sherpa crews dismantle and assemble tent houses as the tour keeps on going. Today, our campsite at Khahare is reached following scenic trails, eventually leading to a serene meadow surrounded by lush greenery and forests. The campfire at Khahare gave us immense pleasure. We had snacks and tea before entering the tent. The region offered a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle, with the serene ambiance of nature providing the perfect backdrop for a restful evening. The musical program before dinner made the surroundings cheerful, and everyone enjoyed the folk music.

Our adventure continued with a hike to Arughat through the villages of Dhading district. Arughat is a small and vibrant town located at the bank of the Budi Gandaki River that is a gateway to the Manaslu trekking and expedition. Our hiking was concluded with camping at Arughat Bazar. The town is a lifeline for Northern Gorkha up to Tsum Valley.

We visited the historic Gorkha Durbar along with the Gorkha Durbar Museum. The place holds a significant role in the unification of modern Nepal. King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the founder of modern Nepal, initiated the unification of Nepal from this small Kingdom, Gorkha, in the 19th century.  After lunch at Gorkha Bazar, we continued our tour to Motel du Mugling, a serene riverside retreat at the confluence of Marsyandi and Trishuli River. Enjoyed the musical evening, followed by a campfire, unlimited chicken barbecue, and lively dancing. The riverside ambiance and surrounding hills provide a perfect end to the day.

In the end, we enjoyed the scenic drive back to Kathmandu. The journey offered a last glimpse of central Nepal’s countryside, leaving us with cherished memories of the adventure. Upon reaching Kathmandu, the trip concludes with a drop-off at our final destination with high gratitude and satisfaction for this adventurous tour.
