A Spiritual Odyssey: From Gorakhpur to Janakpurdham Through Nepal’s Sacred Landscapes

Nepal is the Sacred land of knowledge and wisdom. As we know, the Himalayan kingdom was the residence of sages and great sages(such as Maharishi). The temples and heritage of this sacred land regularly attract thousands of pilgrims from around the globe. As we have been operating Muktinath Tour and Pashupatinath tour for our valued guests from different parts of India to Nepal. We started our pilgrims’ tour at Gorakhpur airport by receiving the guests from Hyderabad. The marvellous Gorakhnath Temple, the tales of a legendary yogi, who inspired warrior ascetics, which is still practiced in the premises of this temple, was our first destination before crossing into Nepal via Sunauli. We also noticed the rapidity of Asian Highway construction, which will connect different cultures and geographies sooner. We stayed at the hotels near the holy Mayadevi temple. The Lumbini tour is dedicated to understanding the archaeological wonder of the Mayadevi temple, to discovering the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, and the well-known Ashoka pillar, which displays evidence of Lord Buddha’s birth in Nepal in this holy land.

Pokhara, the beautiful city of western Nepal, surprised us with mysterious caves and Lakes. The landscapes of the Pokhara valley, hills with historic temples and shrines, and the amazing lakeside street made us spellbound. The self-originated Shiva Lingam down at the Gupteswor Cave glistens behind the waterfall, which connects Davis Falls through a natural tunnel. The story of Goddess Bindavasini and the idol brought from the Indian province of Uttar Pradesh after the king saw a dream of the Goddess wanted to be enshrined at Kaski Kot. But the mysterious incident occurred when people brought the statue from India and camped at the present temple premises. The following day, it was scheduled to be carried to the hill of Kaski Kot to be enshrined there, but the statue remained unmoved, and the king decided to build a temple over there. The next morning, our caravan of thirteen Scorpio jeeps started to drive from the lakeside to Jomsom-Mustang for the Muktinath Tour. We had lunch at Jomsom Bazar before proceeding to Muktinath. We follow the Kali Gandaki River from Beni to Kagbeni. The holy bath at 108 holy waterspouts made us fresh and warm. The eternal flame at a Buddhist temple, despite the thin air in the Himalayas, made it more mysterious and natural.

Pilgrims walked down to the bank of the Kali Gandaki River to search for the Saligram, which is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Following the bank of the Kali Gandaki River, we halted at Galeshwor Mahadev, one of the self-originated Shiva lingams at the massive rock boulder where the roaring Kali Gandaki whispers lord Shiva’s name.

The Kathmandu valley Heritage tour started in the morning after breakfast. We started to drive following the Prithvi Highway up to Kurintar at the Manakamana cable car ground station. We enjoyed the cable ride and paid homage to the goddess Bhagwati, an incarnation of goddess Parvati, and believed to be granted the wishes of devotees. We continued our journey till we reached the hotel in Kathmandu. The next morning, we started a Kathmandu City sightseeing tour, visiting a UNESCO World Heritage site, including the Pashupatinath temple, Buddhanilkantha temple(sleeping Vishnu), and the monkey temple (Swoyambhunath Stupa). The experience of Kathmandu Valley and its Heritage tour made us spellbound. The craftsmanship that has been reflected in every temple and monument has made this Valley a wonderful destination for a Cultural tour and a Festival tour. The legend of the Pashupati temple, the myths of romance between the King and goddess Taleju, are a few interesting stories that can be heard during a guided Kathmandu City tour. The living goddess “Kumari” and the story behind her are other attractive factors of this pilgrimage tour.

Finally, we took a flight from Kathmandu to Janakpurdham, where Janaki temple’s golden pinnacle gleamed. In the evening, we watched Ganga Arati at the Ganga Sagar pond near the Ram Mandir.

This wasn’t just a tour—it was walking through living legends where every shrine guarded secrets, every landscape echoed with epics, and faith flowed as endlessly as the Himalayan rivers we crossed. We thanked Pokalde Adventure Tours & Travel for organizing a spiritual and religious tour.
